I can’t speak for every first-time homebuyer, but when we purchased our home it was filthy. As mentioned before, the property was a hoarders paradise. When we went to the viewing, there were cars, hottubs, motor parts, boats, metal siding and old foundations all through the yard. So needless to say, the day we got the keys we went straight to the property to access the damages.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to see that the majority of the mess was infact gone. However there was still so much to do before we could move in. Immediately we tore out all the carpets, washed the walls and sanitized the entire kitchen and bath. Inside took an entire weekend to clean, when we started on the backyard we were completely unprepared.
There is an old fire pit in the far corner of the lot, with a burning barrel and about 8 square feet of ash, and burned material. When we attempted to clean up, it took an entire box of industrial garbage bags. It was so draining, but knowing that we can’t start building the yard of our dreams unless the trash is gone.
We spent an entire weekend picking up wiring, brake pads, engine parts, many sharp objects and half burned trash. Some minor injuries occurred so we’ve actually already put some blood sweat and tears into our home. I’m sure the worst is yet to come, but we know it will all be worth it.
We hope in our next coming blogs we can begin to plan out our renovations and DIY’s.
Having you with us on this journey means the world to us, we hope you will follow along!
Lots of love,
